How does communication work in our life?

Communication is the most important part of human beings. If it hadn’t been for communication, we would still have been lingering in the woods wearing nothing and hunting for food. Communication enabled us to live in society. We share our ideas and every human being can know what the other knows through communication.

Communication happens with the help of words. Words are made up of letters and they form a language. A language is a basic identity of every person. The language one speaks speaks for him/her. It tells the person’s place of origin and the kind of person s/he is. Language is the basis to proper communication. We need to speak the same or understandable language to communicate properly. There is always a better communication between people speaking the same language and it serves as a means of emotional attachment among people as well. However, language is never a barrier to communication as even deaf and dumb people communicate without even learning any language.

In spite of a perfect knowledge of language in two people, their communication can never be perfect as communication is not merely about speaking but it also depends on viewpoints, knowledge and attitude of a person. This is known as the mental filter of a person. This affects the perception and understanding of a person when he is communicating with another person with a different kind of mental filter. Two people, most often, react differently in the same situation. They use different words or act differently in response to the same message. So, communication can never be predefined. It is different according to people’s mental filter n two person’s have the same mental filter.

Moreover, communication is not a natural process. It is learnt in due course through social and environmental schooling. In modern world, it is even learnt through course books. So, the learning process also affects the mental filter of a person. Also, our critical thinking ability, economic status, native place, gender and age affect our communication style and choice of words. Our family members are the most influential in our way of communication. Our locality, kins and peers also have a major impact on how we communicate. However, there is a part played by our personal interest and our role models in our communication process.

Communication is not merely a exchange of facts among people. In fact, it mostly involves our perception of many things and even abstract ideas. Communication includes talks of future planning, imagined things, guesses, personal views and many things which differ from person to person. This shows that communication helps people tell things which they feel, see or imagine in their own way and what people tell is mostly not the exact reality.

In business, communication plays a vital role. Communication helps to make deals, exchange goods and make profit eventually. A manager with a good communication skill gains success by sharing good things in a nice way but a lack of the same leads people to failure in spite of having better ideas. Communication helps to increase trust and reliability among business leaders. Trust and reliability are very important in any business as it is all about give and take of money. That is why most work time of people in business is spent in communication. However, only a small part of it is productive and the rest is on trivial topics which in fact make the basis to a big deal. For this reason, a lot of money is spent in any organization for communication purpose.

Above all, communication is the most vital process in every person’s life. We spend so much time and money in communicating with other people in order to maintain a relationship, earn money, create happiness, give message, tell the fact and make base for next communication or meeting. It is all to live a happy life with people around us till the end.
